Teaching
I teach voice, songwriting, and guitar, and have also worked with students on bass, music theory, and audio engineering. I teach at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago (check out upcoming classes and workshops) as well as freelance over Zoom (contact me for more info).
My approach to voice teaching puts the student’s experiences and sensations front and center as the most important guide to healthy singing. Having trained in classical technique and repertoire in college, I have since specialized into rock/pop/country/folk styles and love helping to find a student’s unique voice in whatever genre(s) they want to explore.
In my songwriting classes, I try to foster a balance of learning about the craft of songwriting (music theory, rhyme & lyrical meter, structure, etc) with practicing the personal and creative side of the process.
